Most people know about adsense but you can also find a number of advertisers for your pages and change them according to content. Lets say adsense is not working for you very well as far as click through rate. Then I will tell you how to pick a number of advertisers and even rotate them automaticly if you like.
Set up an account at Commission Junction and you will be able to apply for over 2,000 advertisers. They do ask for a lot of information but that is because the more information they have the more likely you are to be approved. A lot of companies approve just about everyone but some are strict on who they let place ads. Most don't allow porn sites.
If you look at my blog about video games @ Video Game Guru you will see a gamefly ad first, they are reletive to my content so I get a high click through rate. In order to get paid though the must take the offer such as free trial or subscription. It still works out to be a little more money than I would have made using adsense.
There is also an ad on this page that relates to content, I can choose whatever I want and just go to Commission Junction to get the link or html.
It is easier than dealling with a lot of advertisers and logging into each one such as amazon or ebay. Javascript is how you rotate the ads, I select a couple of ads and save them as a smartzone, and commission Junction rotates them for me.
I changed my CJ ads, now I put in one code, such as the one for the footer of each post in this blog. In CJ I edit what ads I use. So if one isn't performing then right from the stats screen i delet it, I now have abou 150 advertisers and since I have 4 types of blogs I basicaly rotate the ads based on the demographics of the viewers.
